Nicholas R. Tejeda, FACHE

Nicholas Tejeda is the Group President, Western Group for Tenet Healthcare. In this role he is responsible for the healthcare operations in West Texas, New Mexico, as well as Orange County (LA), Central Coast, and Central Valley in California. Collectively this represents 15,000 employees, 17 hospitals and hundreds of ambulatory access points including freestanding ERs, urgent care clinics, physician clinics, ambulatory surgery centers and other outpatient services.

Previously, Nicholas Tejeda was the Group Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence in El Paso, Texas. The Hospitals of Providence health network which has provided advanced health care services to El Paso and the outlying communities of west Texas, southern New Mexico and our international neighbors in northern Mexico for more than 100 years.  The Hospitals of Providence is a member of Tenet Healthcare, the fifth-largest healthcare system in the United States.  Concurrently, Nicholas serves at the Chief Executive Officer for The Hospitals of Providence Memorial Campus and Providence Children’s Hospital.  The Memorial Campus is a 480-bed acute care hospital and Providence Children’s Hospital is a 144-bed facility.

In prior role, he served as CEO of The Hospitals of Providence Transmountain Campus and The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus.  The Transmountain Campus is a teaching hospital that is academically affiliated with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC).    The Hospitals of Providence Sierra Campus is a 329-bed tertiary care facility that focuses on Neurosciences and Cardiology, among other services.

Nicholas also served as CEO at The Hospitals of Providence East Campus in El Paso, Texas, a part of the Tenet Healthcare system.  Prior to coming to The Hospitals of Providence East Campus, Nicholas was CEO at Doctors Hospital of Manteca in Manteca, California.  Previously, he was the COO at Twin Cities Community Hospital in Templeton, California.  Prior to that, Nicholas was the Vice President of Hospital Operations at Saint Mary’s Medical Center in Reno, Nevada.

Nicholas was the recipient of the 2017 ACHE Robert S. Hudgens Memorial Award for Young Healthcare Executive of the Year.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and is a Past Chair of ACHE’s National Early Careerist Committee.  He is the Chair for the American Hospital Association’s (AHA) Institute for Diversity and Health Equity and also Past President of the National Association of Latino Healthcare Executive. He sits on the External Advisory Board for the Department of Health Policy and Management at the University of Kansas Medical Center.  He was named a Modern Healthcare 2011 “Up & Comer”.  The Federation of American Hospitals awarded Nicholas the 2013 Corris Boyd Diversity & Leadership Award.  Modern Healthcare named him as a 2016 Recipient of the Modern Healthcare inaugural “Top 10 to Watch” Minority Healthcare Executives.  He has served as faculty in the ACHE Thomas Dolan Executive Diversity Program and also presented several times at the ACHE Congress on Healthcare Leadership.  He serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the TTUHSC Gayle Greve Hunt School of Nursing.  He also serves as a Board Member within a number of community organizations in El Paso, Texas.

Nicholas earned his master’s degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Kansas and a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Wichita State University.  He and his wife Elena have two sons, Nicholas and Alex.
