Seeking to Gain Positive Visibility?

Appreciate the power and avoid the pitfalls of social media. If you are engaged in social media it is critical that you are mindful of every post. It is best to avoid commentary on politics, religion, abortion, and any topic that can be inflammatory. Familiarize yourself with your organization’s social media policy. Be mindful that when you hold a leadership position you are in a position of public trust. You are a reflection of the organization and represent it even when you are not on duty.

There are a growing number of cases in which individuals have made unprofessional or unacceptable statements on social media that have led to swift and severe discipline from the organizations which employed them. When you enter into leadership positions there is a code of conduct which you are held accountable to regardless of whether the events in question occur during work hours or not. Leadership is a 24 hours/day, 7 days/week responsibility.

Leadership is a way of life and the actions of all leaders are always subject to public scrutiny. Be smart. If you have difficulty controlling impulsive postings on social media, it is highly recommended that you disable your social media account immediately. The consequences are not worth the risk.
